Tiwa deal with roc nation

Mavin Records first lady, Tiwa Savage has finally spoken about her deal with the Jay Z-owned management company, Roc Nation.
In an exclusive interview with Hot 97 New York radio host, Ebro Darden, Tiwa Savage discussed African music, and her deal with Roc Nation.
‘I met B High (Jay Z’s cousin, and Roc Nation chief of mobile strategies), I got a call, and he mentioned it and I (makes a skeptical sound)…He was serious. I don’t know if you’ve ever met him, but he is serious. And I love the fact that they are not trying to change me. They really just want to bring what I already have to offer to the rest of the world, and they truly believe in the movement. So yeah, I’m really excited about it,’ she said of the deal.
‘The reason why we did not really make too much noise about it is because a lot of people come over from Africa and they say they’ve got this deal and that deal, and then nothing happens. We just wanted to do it the proper way, get it official. I didn’t want to do that to my people. I wanted them to really believe that it was really happening, so we wanted to wait for the right time, and the time is now.’

No one can prove I stole Rivers State money – Former governor, Rotimi Amaechi says

Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has denied allegations that he embezzled money meant for the development of Rivers state when he was governor.
Amaechi said this while speaking at a stakeholders’ forum on corruption organised by the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja today July 28th.
“If you had followed the Rivers State government when I was governor, we were the first state to introduce the Public Procurement Law in the country. The state cabinet used to call the Director General of Public Procurement in the state as an alternative governor, that they wanted an amendment to that law. The reason they wanted amendment is that he (DG) refused to increase the threshold to one hundred million naira, per ministry, instead he reduced it to 10 million naira. I had a battle with him (DG BPE) and the world bank who insisted that we should not go for an amendment but should persuade him to increase the threshold. I remember the cabinet tried to go to court against him and I remember that he was also trying to go to court against Commissioners. In fact, the procurement DG wrote a memo that I felt was very incriminating requesting that since the law requires the governor to take any commissioner who doesn’t comply with the public procurement law to court, I should please take the commissioner of education to court for not complying… Everybody in the cabinet felt that he was an alternative governor, they felt that he was slowing the process,” he said.
Mr. Amaechi said transparency in the use of public funds was key to his administration as governor, and that the Rivers community was fully briefed periodically on how funds were being utilised.
“Within that period we insisted on engaging the indigenous communities on how much we received and how we spent the money. That is why I feel that after this ministerial appointment, I should do everything possible to stay away from government because in spite of all the forms of transparency I introduced in government, one man could begin to tell lies to Nigerians and Nigerians believe him. The governor of Rivers State said I squandered N3 trillion naira. I did not receive up to N1.8 trillion naira as governor both from IGR and funds from federal allocation. So, how could I have squandered money I did not even receive in the first place? You can see the politics of lies and lies. As Minister of Transportation, I run an open and transparent system. I believe in name and shame. What name and shame does is, if you name and shame those of them who don’t have conscience they won’t come to public functions. I do have conscience. In fact, it was the word corruption that brought me to this occasion because I wanted to see who will get up and say to me, ‘this is evidence that you are corrupt. We went to court against the Rivers State government on their allegation of corruption against me. The Court of Appeal said, produce that document that found this man (Amaechi) guilty of those crimes and up till today he (Wike) has not produced it,” he said

Teenagers Attack Lagos School, Drag Principal With Tie, Steal N1.5m

Pandemonium broke out at the Lagooz Schools on Omotoye Estate in the Orile Agege area of Lagos State after some hoodlums invaded the school premises.
Punch learnt that some Hausa teenagers, numbering about 100, stormed the school with machetes and other weapons.
They were said to have attacked the school’s principal and a teacher, identified as Uncle John, during a free-for-all which lasted for about two hours.
Punch correspondent was told that the rampaging youths, aside damaging some property of the school, allegedly made away with N1.5m.
Policemen from the Elere divison, operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad and some members of the Oodua People’s Congress, were said to have repelled the attack as residents fled the area.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said trouble started when the school finished its valedictory service party on Saturday, but the teenagers refused to leave the school premises.
He said, “They were actually relatives of some of the school-leavers. The valedictory service party ended around 5pm, but they refused to leave. A teacher, Uncle John, tried to force them out. One of them abused the teacher and ran away.
“The teacher, who was embarrassed by the abuse, held one of the Hausa teenagers. There was a struggle between them. As the teacher hit the man, he also fought back and held the teacher by the neck, almost strangulating him.
“The principal, who wanted to settle the fight, was held by the tie by one of the intruders and beaten up. The principal’s brother, who wanted to rescue him, was given a fist blow in the eye.”
The teenagers damaged about four dozen of the chairs used for the party. Three of them were later apprehended by the school.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the attack, adding that seven suspects had been arrested.

“I think It’s Entirely Absurd To Say Corruption War Is Targeted At The Opposition – Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has refuted claims in some quarters that the anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government was targeted at members of the opposition party and other perceived
enemies,
Osinbajo, who fielded questions from newsmen at the end of the 27th Ordinary session of African Union in Kigali, Rwanda, yesterday, said the speculation was the handiwork of those who wanted to trivialize the anti-corruption war and stop the government from recovering stolen funds.
He said: “I think it’s entirely absurd, I think that view is absurd and without foundation or basis whatsoever. We look at corruption from all possible facets.
‘’If you look at, for example, corruption on the military, from military procurement, obviously the only individuals responsible for that could be persons who had held office within the period in question and that has been done and clearly the opposition, APC, was not in office at that time.”

My Married Friend Begs My Husband To Return Her Panties” – Wife Tells Court

Mrs Taiwo Oluwanisola, 42, on Wednesday told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos State how she stumbled on a message where her friend was begging her husband,
Olajide Oluwanisola,45, to return her pant. Taiwo said this in an application she filed before the court seeking the dissolution of her 18-year-old marriage to her clearing-agent husband over alleged infidelity.
“My husband is dating my married friend and I discovered this when I was with his cell phone. “Then, a whats-app message entered with my friend’s picture appearing on the screen begging my husband to return her pant. “I showed my husband the message; he confessed that he was having an affair with her that I should forgive him. “I also went to my friend’s house to confront her for having an affair with my husband. “She also begged me that I should not let her husband hear about it and promised to end the relationship with my husband,” the petitioner testified.
The petitioner, a mother of four, also alleged that her husband had developed the habit of threatening to kill her with dangerous weapons at the slightest provocation. “My husband who used to beat me up using dangerous weapons also threatened to kill me. “Anytime I received a call, my husband would demand for my cell phone to know if it were a man that called; and if I refused to surrender it to him, he would beat the hell out of me. “He once attacked me on the bed with a cutlass threatening to machete me into pieces but I escaped by the whiskers,” she said. The petitioner said that her husband had refused to eat food prepared by her in the last three years. She, therefore, pleaded with the court to grant her application for divorce, saying she was no longer loved her husband.
Olajide, who denied her wife’s allegation of infidelity, accused Taiwo of having an extra-marital affair with another man. “My wife is having affair with a man, I have caught them severally, and they always meet around 11p.m. in the darkness behind a transformer. “She and her lover arrested me on two occasions, accusing me of always calling her lover’s cell phone and threatening his life which I know nothing about,” he said. Olajide also described his wife as “an ingrate’’. He alleged that he bought two cars for her when my business was booming but when it crashed, she started misbehaving. “In fact, she even arrested me claiming I stole her N1,000 of which I am innocent of,” he said.
According to him, Taiwo always goes out at will without my permission and will always return home between 11:p.m., or 11:30 p.m. The husband said he stopped eating foods prepared by his wife because she was fond of abusing him before serving him. Olajide, however, urged the court to grant his wife’s application for divorce, saying he was also fed up with the 18-year-old marriage.
The court president, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case to Aug. 9. Omilola, however, ordered each of the couple to come along with three family members at the next adjourned date for possible mediation.

Governor Yari is being accused of misappropriating financial allocation to the state, and failing  to implement the budget in the last five years. The statement, which was signed by the House Committee Chairman on Information, Mannir Aliyu Gidan Jaja, also accused the governor of corrupt usage of local government funds for state purposes.

Other charges  levelled against the governor include "Inadequate explanation of N1 billion commercial agriculture (CBN) loan, non-remittance of pension funds to pension administrators,  non-remittance of 5 percent emirate councils funds, the gross misappropriation of bailout funds to the state by the federal government to settle workers’ salaries, including N10b for 2014 and N1.46b in 2016."

Melaye: Lagos Lawmakers Besiege APC Secretariat

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Wednesday besieged the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, to protest against Senator Dino Melaye.
The group of peaceful protesters, who were led by the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Wasiu Sani, said they were at the party headquarters to register their displeasure over Dino’s alleged verbal assault on Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
According to the protesters, Senator Tinubu is a woman who respects all the political sons and daughters of her husband but does not suffer fools gladly.
They also alleged that there appeared to be a conspiracy of silence by the leadership of the Senate over the incident noting that as loyal party members, they could not fold their hands and watch the party’s cherished values of loyalty and respect for leaders being denigrated.
Sani who later addressed newsmen after the closed door meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun said, “We are here to pay solidarity visit to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, that we condemn the act, she should not be intimidated and she should not yield to verbal assault.”
“But let me say this, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, that we know who incidentally was the First Lady of Lagos state between 1999 to 2007 some of us are like sons or brothers to her husband, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“In Yoruba land, if you are a son to a woman’s husband, you are supposed to be her son. She respects us and always addresses us as sirs. So, she is a woman that is cautious but she does not take nonsense.”

Nigeria Heading Into Recession’ – IMF

The IMF slashed its growth forecast for the Nigerian economy this year on Tuesday, saying a combination of plunging oil revenues and weakened investor confidence will push it into
recession. The International Monetary Fund said it expects Africa’s largest economy to contract by 1.8 percent this year, after having forecast in April a 2.3 percent expansion. Nigeria’s stall, and sluggish activity in the number two economy, South Africa, is expected to pull down economic growth across sub-Saharan Africa, the IMF said, forecasting a “dramatic implication.” “In 2016, regional output growth will fall short of population growth, implying declining per capita incomes,” it said.
Nigeria’s economy has been battered hard by the plunge in oil prices, the main source of the country’s income, as well as prices of other key commodities. In addition, rebels in the southern oil region have forced crude production cutbacks, and internal unrest, especially attacks by the Boko Haram group in the north, has also hurt the economy. Inflation hit an 11-year high of 16.5 percent in June as prices of food and energy jumped after the government freed up the naira currency in April, allowing it to plummet against the US dollar. Also weighing on output have been electricity shortages due to rebels’ sabotage of the gas pipelines that fire power plants.

I Remain PDP Chairman Till 2018 Until My Conditions Are Met – Ali Modu Sheriff says

Embattled factional leader of PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff says he remains the National chairman of the party till 2018 and that until the party caretaker committee members led by Ahmed Makarfi resign, the party cannot be at peace. He said this while speaking with some PDP
members in Abia state yesterday July 18th.
According to Sheriff, these are the conitions he set at a meeting he had with some governors and leaders of the party in Abuja last week.
“I told them that the convention should hold in Abuja away from Port Harcourt. These are the conditions to be met before I would speak to members of my National Working Committee. People are very interested in our party and how the impasse will be settled. Yes we have met, and issues were discussed, but all the issues I put forward for them was for the Makarfi Caretaker Committee to resign. Since it is an aberration as far as our party constitution is concerned, I told them that I am not ready to be a permanent chairman but I want the party to be placed in proper stead. If he resigns tomorrow, I will ask the members of my NWC whose tenure still lasts to 2018, including myself, and set up a Convention Committee in Abuja. In that convention, I will give away my mandate that will not expire until 2018. But until then, I remain the national chairman of this party until 2018. If the leaders of our party felt that we can find a solution without exhausting the Court then I am open to it we can find a political solution. Nothing like what has been reported. If you do not stand on the truth, the end result will be a serious distraction. The convention committee that we will do, I will nominate the chairman 10 people, and the Makarfi group will present 10 people and plan a convention that will take place in Abuja”he said

Nigerians Still Love Me – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to reports from a recent survey which showed that his approval ratings have fallen.
A national survey by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), entitled The Buharimeter Report, had said: “We can also infer that there are still gaps between campaign promises, public expectations, government policies and actions. These need to be aligned properly going forward.
“Attempts sometimes by the President’s party to disown certain promises made during the elections will not serve the government well. What is required is to focus on achieving the promises by prioritizing them and carrying Nigerians along if there are challenges along the way.”
However, in an exclusive interview with African Leadership magazine the President said,“Yes, I was elected by an overwhelming majority of Nigerians, and I am ever grateful for the opportunity I have been given to serve.
“However, I don’t consider the result of the so-called survey a slip in my public rating and acceptance. I appreciate the high expectations of Nigerians and as an administration we are working assiduously to deliver.
“We came in with a mantra of Change and the zeal to give a new lease of life to governance. Our zeal has remained the same and we are always prepared to make the difference.
“You will recall that when I was being sworn in, I emphasized that as a government, three key areas will be the priorities. The first is the need to rebuild the economy. I also pledged to fight insecurity while the third and equally important area is the fight against corruption.”
He pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with his administration, saying: “Nigeria will soon be back on track.”

Fani Kayode Speaks: My Freedom is Meaningless Unless…

Nigeria’s ex Aviation Minister, Femi Fani Kayode has opened up about his ordeal in EFCC detention.
Fani Kayode was recently released from prison on bail. He
had been in detention after honoring an EFCC invitation for questioning 67 days ago.
Speaking about his experience in prison, the PDP chief expressed gladness that he’s been given the chance to defend himself.
“It was quite an ordeal. It was an ordeal. But I thank God that I am free and that I have been given an opportunity to defend myself in court when the case starts – I am looking forward to that. Outside of that, the truth is that as long as others who are also political prisoners and have been falsely accused are still in (security agencies’) custody our country, then I believe that my freedom is meaningless.
“So, until every single political prisoner or every single person falsely accused by the state, by the government and the EFCC has been released; has been given the opportunity to defend himself in court; and until that happens, I don’t think any of us is free. We still have people like Sambo Dasuki, Iyiola Omisore and many others in prison or EFCC’s custody,” he said according to Punch.
“You have people in EFCC custody – husbands and wives locked up for no good reasons. It is very traumatic and depressing but now, is not the time to talk; right now I am preparing my defence. I am preparing for any eventuality because I know the government is capable of doing anything to anybody at anytime, who criticises them.
“I am also preparing and praying for what lies ahead. Whatever the case, the struggle will continue and then we shall prevail. Those that seek to impose an ethnic and religious bondage and servitude on people of this nation will not succeed. And, every Nigerian, regardless of his religious faith or where he comes from, will and shall be treated equally – and that’s what we are fighting for.”
Asked if he ate food prepared for him in prison, he said, “While in prison, I only ate food that was brought to me by my wife. The prison officials were very professional. People were treated like human beings and that is to be commended. But being in EFCC’s custody is a different kettle of fish. I am glad to be free at last. I pray that this country is delivered from the sort of evil where people are just accused and locked up indefinitely and maligned by the press.”
